SAFETY

Bike Signals
Incorporate bicycle-specific infrastructure into intersection designs:
1., 13., & 14. Bicycle signal head shall be placed with housing in visible location with appripriate letter scale
2. Bicycle phase to recall each cycle with detection and actuation
6. Sign plaque should be added below signal head to increase comprehension
8. Markings should be placed where bike path intersects with intersection
9. Passive actuation of bicycle signals through loops or another detection method i.e. push button
Curb Ramp
A combination curb ramp is a creative way to avoid steep curb ramps and still provide level landing to abide by ADA accessibility and will significantly reduce the ramp grades for people who wish to continue along the sidewalk. However, if the landing on parallel curb ramps is not sloped toward the gutter (no more than 2 percent), water and debris can pool there and obstruct passage along the sidewalk.
