PROJECT
Dallas County Public Works has available funding for partnerships with the City that can be used to provide for e pedestrian and bicyclist travel modes potentially reducing vehicle traffic. Most of this area is surrounded bycommercial and urban communities near Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) stations. Multimodal pathways are being evaluatedto provide more facilities for safe walking and biking. Since the DART stations are near busy intersections, pathways have to be planned for safety. There is need provide continuous and safer access to west side of I-35E to Elm Fork Athletic complex.
-
Since it is a commercial area, traffic during construction will be effected. While investigating traffic controls, East bound lane will endure a higher congestion rate because of the use of the road in that direction.
-
Pedistrian walk time will increase with the added path meaning that the green times and yellow times will decrease for motor vehicles, which may cause traffic delay.
OUTCOMES
-
These improvements made to the sidewalks will establish key pedestrian routes to overcome existing barriers such as I-35E.
-
This project will improve sidewalk facilities and complete gaps in sidewalks along Walnut Hill Lane in order to improve viability for bicycle and pedestrian travel in this area.
-
The plan is to provide a safer location for the bus stops and safe pathway for people walking or riding bikes
